My 8 Random things about me...
ReplyDelete1. My Avatar is my best friend Sadie who has been the best listener I have ever known. She speaks only on occasions of hunger, potty time and when I tell her to. She does howl at Fire Trucks which is hilarious. She has very few opinions, is a conservative as you can see by her sign and I would walk through fire for her. (Don't tell her that she gets an attitude.) She has a vocabulary of about 20 words that she understands and 5 of them she understands when we spell they are ride, walk, park, out, and truck.
2. I have two great kids that have given me five absolutely wonderful grandkids. They teach me new things every time I see them; it's the best of times when we are all together. I have been married for 24 years most of them have been pretty good [just kidding sweetie : D] he knows. My husband and I have an RV and spend weekends in the mountains or beach whenever we can. We moved from the Midwest to the south since my latest contract was long, this is the first time in many years I don't have to fly to work.
3. My father and his family immigrated to the US from Italy, near Tuscany. They came with the new hope for the American Dream, through Ellis Island. My mother was born here, her father immigrated to the US from Germany to escape the war; you know the big one W-W-I, The War to End all Wars. He was given citizenship after serving in the US military. He told us stories about his trials to become an American emigrating from Germany. It was not easy for him; he was on his own from the age of 14.
4. I went to college for 2 years, a single mom taking Journalism from some pretty good professors. I had a few stabs in the old-fashioned-paper-newspaper biz, but it was hard to make a steady living and I needed regular hours. I decided to go back and start again. So I went for another couple years Computer Science, Business Management and Finance.
Building cars has been bred into me, my family worked in the car industry, and there are about 100 years for the Big 3 between us. As a kid we made a game of naming the car by the grill; most kids just had flash cards. My first real job after my second round at college was for an auto maker. I was a Project Manager before there was a job description for a Project Manager. I started with PCs the year IBM introduced them. I did labor analysis and some quality control during the era when Lee Iacocca was turning around Chrysler. Times were pretty good. People were buying cars. The hardest part of that job was that I traveled through US and Canada couple times a month, spent a lot of time in Detroit. NAFTA end of chapter.
5. 25 years later I am still a Project Manager doing Enterprise System Deployment projects for large customers. I've been to every state except a few, no Alaska or Maine yet, but I've been to Honolulu, Hawaii on business. It's not really as glamorous as my friends like to think. I've been everywhere, man, just like the guy on the commercial. I've slept in airports and stranded on runways. I can recognize the United Airlines theme song in an elevator… I have more flight miles than some professional pilots. I believe I have enough hotel chains guest points to live for a couple months in one of several hotels, so tell me why I have an RV? Two words… campfires and Sadie. I love the outdoors.
6. I love music and play an eclectic collection from the 60's to now. Some of my favorites Allman Brothers, Trace Atkins, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffet are on my daily list. Yes, I'm a Parrothead. Some people will know what that is. ;D I garden, play golf and I love to sail.
7. I paint with oils mostly landscapes and seascapes, I make quilts and read for my downtime. I think I still have a few good stories left in me. I get a lot of practice writing because 95% of what I do is about communicating. I did three speaking engagements last year so I've recently added writing speeches and presentations about Project Management to my list.
8. I refer to myself, as I would expect Frank Sinatra to say, "She's a salty old broad." I speak my mind, don't hold back and have strong beliefs. I always give a reply back when someone writes something that I enjoy. I believe in saying Good Read! I think I coined the phrase Globaloney. I love writing for Newsvine, it's always a thrill when you hit a topic that everyone has a stake in. I've made some great friends here. Finally, I've never known a bottle of 18 year old scotch to last longer than a few weeks in my possession. Technically that's more than 8 things, but I was on a roll.
Cheers,
PartysOver
